From Global News.
Minister of Public Safety of Canada Gary Anandasangaree said on Tuesday that the government is moving ahead with implementing an efficient gun buyback program for assault-style firearms such as the AR-15–style rifle.
"The Assault Style Firearms Compensation Program provides a way for firearm owners to safely dispose of and or deactivate their assault-style firearms and receive compensation in return," he said.
A pilot program will begin in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, on Tuesday, with plans for a nationwide rollout later in the fall of 2025, followed by a collection and compensation phase in 2026.
Anandasangaree added that this program is "voluntary" and "nobody is having their weapon confiscated."
