At a high-stakes UN General Assembly on Monday, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada recognizes Palestine as a state.

"We offer our full partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel," Carney said.

Carney criticized Israel for its increased illegal settlements in the West Bank and Gaza, while also condemning Hamas’ attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
