Carney asked why Canada has yet to make trade deal with Trump like UK, EU have

From Global News.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney responded to a journalist’s question Tuesday about why Canada had not succeeded in signing a trade deal with the U.S. to bring down tariffs like the U.K. and European Union.

Carney said there were more areas where the U.S. and Canada competed and it was in those areas that thee two countries had to come to an agreement.

"But there are more areas where we are stronger together and that’s what we’re focused on and we’re going to get the right deal for America (and) right deal obviously from my perspective for Canada," carney said.

Trump said it was because the EU and the U.K. were not located next to the U.S., unlike Canada. "It makes it, in many cases, much better and easier."

Carney arrived at the White House on Tuesday to meet with Trump as Canada’s economy continues to feel the sting of U.S. trade tariffs.
