From Global News.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday that China is a “great nation” that “does not fear violence” as the country kicked off its largest-ever military parade to commemorate 80 years since Japan’s defeat at the end of World War Two.
Jinping welcomed the arrivals of his counterparts, Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, who appeared together for the first time.
Emotions ran high as people gathered to watch a live broadcast of Beijing’s military parade. Residents expressed their feelings, saying, “I’m very moved,” and noted that China’s development was not easy to achieve in today’s world.
"I’m sure the U.S. military and its allies and partners are watching the parade and especially the weapons systems very closely," said analyst James Char, adding that China’s new weaponry creates concern among its adversaries and rivals.
