During question period in the House of Commons on Monday, Conservative MP Shuvaloy Majumdar questioned the absence of a map or any clear boundaries for the state of Palestine on the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website. In response, Robert Oliphant, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that his government was acting in the "vein of Lester Pearson" and took the step of formally recognizing a Palestinian state in order to "work for peaceful solutions, to ensure that Israel and Palestinians have safe and secure borders."
