Conservatives call for Anandasangaree to be fired over gun buyback misstep

From Global News.

Conservatives attacked the Liberal government’s plans to revive a buyback program for banned firearms Tuesday — calling it a “political stunt”— after Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree was caught on tape questioning its effectiveness.

Anandasangaree said during question period Tuesday that it his comments were “misguided” and that it was “important to have the program in place.”
The minister was caught on leaked audio obtained by Global News, in which he acknowledged police may not be able to enforce the program that he suggested was moving forward due to political pressure.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre called for Anandasangaree to be fired, adding: “more than half of Canadians don’t feel safe under his watch. Will the prime minister do the only thing that will secure our country and fire this incompetent minister?”

Poilievre also criticized the Liberals for “breaking their promise” to hire 1,000 new border guards, laying the blame at the minister’s feet.
