CUSMA has not been “sidelined” amid Trump trade war, expert says

From Global News.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to Washington, D.C. on Monday, where he will meet with his American counterpart as trade negotiations between the two countries continue and Ottawa looks for an off-ramp from tariffs hammering the Canadian steel, aluminum and automobile industries.

The duties do not apply to goods compliant under the Canada-U.S.-Mexico agreement on trade, better known as CUSMA.

Global’s Reggie Cecchini spoke with Joseph Steinberg of the University of Toronto about Carney’s trip to the U.S. He said Canada and the U.S. will both face “uncertainty” throughout the ongoing trade negotiations.
