Doug Ford proposes “cameras on crime” to tackle rising home invasions, car thefts in Ontario

From Global News.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced on Monday a proposal to introduce "cameras on crime" as a measure to combat rising crime rates, particularly home invasions and car thefts.

During a press conference in Hamilton, Ford said, "car thefts here, and the home invasions in certain areas around Ontario are just getting hammered… I’m wondering if we can use those cameras to identify stolen cars as well."

And a week after announcing that the province was doing away with speed cameras, Ford said he had "no problem" with red light cameras, calling them "essential."

Ford emphasized that the installation of these cameras would only occur if "the city or the town wants it. And then the community has to give a green light as well."
