Delegations from Israel and Hamas arrived in Egypt for high-stakes talks on a U.S.-proposed peace plan for Gaza on Monday. U.S. President Donald Trump is calling on both sides to "move fast" and forge ahead with the 20-point proposal which includes the release of all remaining hostages held by Hamas, in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinians in Israeli prisons. Additionally, Hamas must fully disarm, while Israel must agree to a complete withdrawal from Gaza. Vincent McAviney reports.
In other U.S. news, Trump’s plans to deploy the military into various American cities are running into legal trouble. In the state of Oregon, a federal judge once again blocked Trump’s attempt to send the National Guard to Portland. And now, Illinois state is suing the Republican leader for deploying troops to Chicago. Jackson Proskow reports on the legal pushback.
Extreme weather has hit the world’s highest peak. A surprise snowstorm has stranded roughly 200 hikers on the Tibetan side of Mount Everest. Officials say they are in contact with those people, while 350 others have already been rescued. As Mike Armstrong reports, these aren’t summit climbers, but tourists caught off guard by the blizzard.
And, if you didn’t know his name, you do now. Trey Yesavage is the talk of the baseball world. The 22-year-old rookie pitcher has given the Toronto Blue Jays their best shot at advancing in the post-season in years. Yesavage dominated on the diamond Sunday, helping the Jays crush the Yankees in game two of the American league division series. Eric Sorensen looks at the performance few Jays fans will forget.
