Colin Sevigney was five years old the first time he wished death would come for him.

"I have felt defective my whole life.”

By the time he was a high school senior, he was downing shots to start the day. Then he would "put some Kahlua in my coffee and drive to school."

He’s been sober for seven years. But he remembers when sobriety was unbearable. "It’s like 1,000 monkeys chanting all my fears … the only thing to get them to go away is to get high or drunk."
