From DW News.
Over the weekend, tens of thousands of foreign workers holding U.S. visas were left scrambling after the Trump administration announced that it would charge companies $100,000 to hire non-Americans. Companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, and JPMorgan Chase advised their foreign employees to return to the United States immediately. The government later clarified that current visa holders would not be affected by the changes.
Reining in immigration was one of Donald Trump’s core campaign promises when he ran for president last year. In addition to closing the border to undocumented migrants, many of Trump’s supporters called for restrictions on H-1B visas for foreign skilled workers.
