How might winning the Nobel Prize shape future research or innovation in immunology? | DW News

From DW News.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to three scientists for their work on the human immune system. Americans Mary Brunkow and Fred Ramsdell and Japanese scientist Shimon Sakaguchi were honored. Sakaguchi told reporters that the honor came as a surprise. The scientists’ research examined how the immune system combats invaders, such as bacteria and viruses, while avoiding the body’s own cells.
