Jimmy Kimmel to return Tuesday after suspension #shorts

From PBS NewsHour.

The Walt Disney Company announced Monday that Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show will return on Tuesday, less than a week after the company pulled it indefinitely over the host’s comments about the Charlie Kirk assassination.

"We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday," the company said in a statement.

Disney suspended ABC’s "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" last week after television station owners Nexstar and Sinclair criticized Kimmel for his comments. Both also said they would pull the show from their ABC-affiliated stations.

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it," Kimmel said in his monologue on Sept. 15.

The move also came after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr threatened to take action against ABC and the network’s affiliate stations.

While the suspension was applauded by President Donald Trump and his allies, it was also criticized as an attack on the First Amendment. More than 430 movie, TV and stage stars, as well as comedians, directors and writers, signed on to an open letter Monday from the American Civil Liberties Union that called Kimmel’s suspension “a dark moment for freedom of speech in our nation.”
