Moldova’s pro-EU party wins surprise majority in pivotal vote

From Global News.

The leader of Moldova’s Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), Igor Grosu, thanked voters on Monday following a significant victory over his Russian-leaning rival in a crucial parliamentary election.

Grosu said the election battle was won "in the face of seemingly invincible enemies" and showed that "even an aggressor like Russia can be defeated if you fight the strongest thing a country has—with the help of its people."

Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that the result was a victory for the entire country, rather than just a political party.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin accused authorities in Moldova of preventing hundreds of thousands of Moldovans living in Russia from voting, saying, "only two polling stations were open for them. Naturally, it was insufficient and did not allow everyone who wanted to vote the chance to do so."
