From Global News.
Premier Scott Moe has apologized on behalf of Saskatchewan for the province’s role in the abuse and trauma at the Île à la Crosse boarding school.
The province will provide $40 million in compensation under an agreement in principle with former students and their families.
Survivors have shared accounts of being beaten for speaking their language, leading to a loss of culture and identity.
The school operated for more than a century before burning down in the 1970s. Ottawa announced its own $27-million settlement earlier this year.
