This is the mystery of Kosmos 482, a spacecraft meant for Venus that’s been silently orbiting our planet since 1972. Now scientists believe one of its toughest parts — a reinforced landing capsule — has entered Earth’s atmosphere. But no one knows exactly where it is. Could it have survived impact? Could it be lying unnoticed in a remote place, or is this a warning about the forgotten junk still floating above us?
