Trump fires US Labor Statistics head after weak July jobs report: “I think the numbers were wrong”

From Global News.

U.S. President Donald Trump has fired a top Labor Department official after a report showed weak numbers for hiring in July – with even lower numbers for the U.S. job market in May and June than previously reported.

Taking to social media Friday, Trump accused Erika McEntarfer of manipulating the numbers, despite having no evidence to back that claim.

The Republican leader doubled down on those claims, telling a reporter, “I think the numbers were wrong, just like I thought her numbers were wrong before the election,” implying McEntarfer was trying to help former vice-president Kamala Harris win the 2024 presidential election.

McEntarfer, who was the Bureau of Labor’s statistics commissioner, was appointed by former president Joe Biden in 2023.
