From Global News.
U.S. President Donald Trump will hold a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Monday after pivotal talks in which Trump was expected to push Netanyahu to back a Gaza peace proposal aimed at ending Israel’s nearly two-year- war against Hamas.
The Israeli leader is looking to shore up his country’s relationship with the U.S. — it’s most important ally — after a slew of Western leaders formally embraced Palestinian statehood last week.
Trump, who sharply criticized the move by Western leaders, has sought Netanyahu’s agreement on a framework to end the war in the Palestinian enclave and free the remaining hostages held by Hamas.
Washington presented a 21-point peace plan to Arab and Muslim states on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly. There are signs of Israeli skepticism over the proposal, however, as well as some reservations among Arab states and questions about Hamas’ absence from negotiations.
