US military strike on suspected drug vessel operated by “narco-terrorist” group kills 11

From Global News.

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the U.S. had carried out a strike in the Caribbean on a vessel suspected of carrying drugs from Venezuela, the first known operation since the administration’s recent surge of warships to the region.

The President said 11 were killed in the rare U.S. military operation in the Americas, claiming in a social media post that he “strike occurred while the terrorists were at sea in international waters transporting illegal narcotics, heading to the United States.”

U.S. Secretary of State said Tuesday that the vessel was contributing to a drug crisis that continues to fuel instability in the region.

“The president’s been very clear that he’s going to use the full power of America and the full might of the United States to take on and eradicate these drug cartels,” he said, adding: “No matter where they’re operating from and no matter how long they’ve been able to operate with impunity – those days are over.”
