What the US-backed plan to end the war in Gaza means for peace in the region

From Global News.

A U.S.-drafted proposal to end the nearly two-year war in Gaza appears to be another step closer to reality, with Hamas agreeing to release hostages and accepting some of the plan’s terms.

Hamas has said it is willing to release the hostages and hand over power to other Palestinians but has also said other aspects of the plan require further consultations among Palestinians.

On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered Israel to stop bombing the Gaza Strip and, on Saturday, in a social media post, warned that “Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off.”

Global’s Reggie Cecchini speaks with Laura Blumenfeld, a Mideast analyst with John Hopkins, about the U.S.-backed plan for Gaza and the prospects for peace in the region.
