“Where will we go?”: Devastating flash floods displace residents in Indian-administered Kashmir

From Global News.

Flash floods swept through various towns in Indian-administered Kashmir on Thursday, leaving a trail of devastation and displacing residents.

"There was a huge sound; it felt like a cloudburst had occurred," said Dinesh Kumar, a local who was unable to salvage anything from his house. "We somehow ran and saved our lives," he added.

"We need a house to stay [in]. We do not want to live in other people’s homes… where will we go?," another local said.

In the Indian-administered Kashmiri city of Jammu, shops and vehicles were swept away as the water in the Tawi river breached embankments.

Weather experts have attributed the Western disturbances and winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal as the reason for such heavy rainfall.
