White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Office of Management and Budget is continuing to work with agencies on layoffs of federal workers amid a government shutdown, adding, "unfortunately there’s going to be a lot of pain inflicted" if no deal is reached. 
 
The government shutdown is now in its sixth day, with Trump’s Republicans and congressional Democrats still at an impasse.
