Synopsis
This video argues that Middle-earth’s architecture is a worldview. We begin at Bag End, where Hobbit holes embody comfort and resistance rooted in Sarehole and threatened by Birmingham’s industry. Tolkien describes atmospheres, so Alan Lee gives them form: Rivendell and Lothlórien echo Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts movement, while Gaudí’s Sagrada Família shows nature’s logic in stone. Dwarven realms—Moria and Erebor—channel Art Deco’s geometry, inverted into mountains. Across Hobbits, Elves, and Dwarves, buildings mirror values and time, revealing a memory palace and Tolkien’s warning about modernity.
