Google has been testing an earthquake early detection system in Android phones. It has already sent out millions of alerts to users, successfully urging them to seek cover prior to the quake. However, researchers have also found that the system can underestimate the magnitude of the quake and does not always issue alerts in time. Google is continuing to refine its algorithm and has made its data public.
