Matt showcases a custom copper shower pan made by Howell Custom Build Group outside of Boston, Massachusetts. The pan is made of thick copper and custom-sized for the shower layout. The drain system includes a weep spot for water to seep through, with layers of mortar, waterproofing, and cement board to be added on top. The shower design aims to prevent water damage and ensure long-term durability. The narrator is impressed by the old-school approach of using copper pans, highlighting the longevity of a similar 100-year-old system that was still dry when removed. While Matt typically uses alternative systems like Schluter, he acknowledges the impressive craftsmanship of the copper pan in this project.
