2 killed, 10 injured at steel plant explosion in Pittsburgh

An explosion at a U.S. Steel plant near Pittsburgh killed two people and sent at least 10 others to the hospital.

The steel plant, U.S. Steel’s Clairton Coke Works, is considered the largest coking operation in North America. Rescue officials said a fire started at the plant shortly before 11 a.m. when an explosion sent black smoke whirling into the sky.Residents reported the explosion could be felt at least two miles away from the facility. The plant is located about 15 miles south of Pittsburgh.
