Flooding in Europe reached its worst level in over a decade in 2024 — with nearly a third of the continent’s rivers breaching flood thresholds. That’s one of the key findings in a new report from Copernicus and the World Meteorological Organization. In Spain’s Valencia region, the damage is still being felt after October’s floods. Local officials are now proposing new defences — but many worry they may come too late.
