From Global News.
The tax "holiday" on GST and, in some provinces, the HST on various items and food has been in effect for a month, first announced as a way to give consumers a break on taxes on their shopping and food purchases.
But businesses are split on whether the break has actually helped their sales, with restaurants reporting a boost of roughly seven to nine per cent while just five per cent of small to medium-sized retailers seeing an increase.
As Global’s Sean Previl reports, with only a month remaining organizations representing retailers and restaurants say discussion needs to be had on making the changes more permanent.
