From Global News.
This Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump will officially implement 25 per cent tariffs on both Canadian and Mexican goods, with 10 per cent on Chinese products, too. And now with these respective governments announcing retaliatory measurements against the U.S., an imminent trade war is becoming more of a possibility.
Speaking Sunday, financial experts and U.S. Senators reacted to the unfolding economic crisis, with a professor in London calling it a “lose-lose trade war” for all sides.
Though it is believed Canada and Mexico will face the brunt of the negative impacts, many are certain the domino effect of Trump’s decision — made as an effort to reduce fentanyl trafficking and the flow of migrants across U.S. border — will impact U.S. households significantly.
Virginia Sen. Mark Warner critiqued Trump for doing “the absolute opposite” of what he promised the American public when running for president — to reduce grocery costs. New York Senator Chuck Schumer echoed these sentiments, calling for Trump to “stop these tariffs.”
