Trump “has not committed” to US troops on the ground in Gaza, White House says

From Global News.

U.S. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a briefing Wednesday that President Trump “has not committed” to putting U.S. military on the ground in Gaza, following the president’s controversial proposal that the United States take over the Gaza Strip and permanently resettle its Palestinian residents.

Leavitt also confirmed Wednesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been notified of Trump’s proposal prior to his remarks on Tuesday.

Egypt, Jordan and other American allies in the Middle East have rejected the idea of relocating more than 2 million Palestinians from Gaza elsewhere in the region.

Trump’s comments come amid a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, during which the militant group has turned over hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners.
