From Global News.
A Canadian man and woman had to be rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard on Monday night after their sailboat ran aground during treacherous conditions caused by a storm hitting the south coast.
A mayday call was received via VHF radio from the sailboat captain around 7 p.m. He said the sailboat was disabled and drifting toward land.
"That mayday call came in out of nowhere," Steve Strohmaier of the U.S. Coast Guard told Global News.
The woman, who was unconscious when she was pulled from the water, was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Global’s Angela Jung has more on the dramatic rescue that ended in tragedy.
