In a narrow Senate vote on Thursday, Kash Patel, a former federal prosecutor and longtime ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, was confirmed as the next FBI Director for a 10-year term.

Despite Patel’s controversial history of political loyalty to Trump, and concerns about his potential use of the FBI’s resources to target political rivals, he secured confirmation with a 51-49 vote.

Democratic senators, including Adam Schiff, strongly opposed his appointment, citing his lack of impartiality and the potential damage to the FBI’s integrity.
