A Japanese item – a piece of wire with a gold coloured object at each end. Pop it into warm water and the nitinol wire bends into a circle and brings the two gold coloured objects together to form – a heart!
A wooden heart which slides apart, revealing a smaller piece which can be slid out, and so on. You finally end up with six pieces. Very elegant.
A silver coloured heart which is a musical heart. Looks good, sounds good!
A plastic slinky made with a cross section in the shape of a heart.
A German toy – a small black box with a flat white piece in the middle, which rotates when you blow on it. There is a red shape on one side, and also a red shape on the other side. When you make it spin, the after image effect means you see both red shapes simultaneously, and they form – a heart! Technically this is known as a thaumatrope.
An elegant piece of paper engineering made by one of Tim’s friends.
Finally a mirror which you wind up. There is a music box inside, and a moving magnet behind the mirror means the small bird moves around the mirror to the theme from the film ‘Love Story’.
