From Global News.
On Friday, the minister of official languages and associate minister of public safety, Rachel Bendayan, announced an expansion to Canada’s list of banned assault-style firearms. The expansion includes an additional 179 models of automatic and semi-automatic weapons.
"This prohibition takes effect immediately. It is our hope, our government’s intention, that this be the last discreet listing of assault-style firearms for prohibition," she said.
"Firearms meant for the battlefield should never see the light of day on our streets," Bendayan added.
Since May 2020, Canada has outlawed approximately 2,500 types of guns it calls assault-style firearms. The government also announced a review of firearms classification that will look at modernizing the legal framework for prohibited guns to close gaps in the law.
