Mark Carney sworn in as Canada’s 24th prime minister

From Global News.

Liberal Leader Mark Carney was officially sworn in as Canada’s new prime minister at a Rideau Hall ceremony on Friday.

Carney, a former Bank of Canada and Bank of England governor, took over from outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as Canada’s 24th prime minister.

Carney does not have a seat in the House of Commons and has never held political office before, though he has served both Conservative and Liberal governments as an economic and financial advisor.

He will take the reins of government amid a growing trade war with the U.S. launched by President Donald Trump and will be under pressure to steer Canada’s response.
