Residents and animals scurried to safety after the ground began to shake as a 5.2 magnitude earthquake hit Southern California on Monday.
“We have a large beam through the centre of our house. I heard a cracking noise and so my first instinct was to get out. I didn’t want to be underneath that beam,” said San Diego County resident Ashley Pinnick.
Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones says “Every earthquake could be a foreshock to something bigger… there was a foreshock to this earthquake, there was a 3.5 yesterday afternoon. The chance the 5.2 could lead to something bigger… 19 out of 20 times what you’re seeing is the biggest one — one out of 20 times, it’s followed by something bigger.”
