Narco ballads came under renewed scrutiny after the band Los Alegres del Barranco projected images of El Mencho, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation cartel, during a performance in March. The group was set to play in the Bay Area at the end of April, but the United States canceled their work and tourist visas following the incident.
