A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that 1 in 31 8-year-olds were identified with autism spectrum disorder in 2022, which is up from 1 in 36 in 2020. Boys were more than three times as likely to be identified with autism as girls, and it was more prevalent in minority children. While Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. calls it an epidemic, experts point to expanded screenings and access to resources. NBC’s Anne Thompson reports for TODAY.
