The White House has reacted to an alleged plan by Amazon that they will soon highlight surcharges on product listings impacted by U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

As Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent was being asked about his thoughts on the alleged implementation on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt — after speaking with President Donald Trump — called the purported move a “hostile and political act.”

“It’s not a surprise because Amazon has partnered with a Chinese propaganda arm,” Leavitt told reporters. “This is another reason why Americans should buy American,” she added.
