Satellite imagery captures eruptions on sun’s surface

From NPR.

The NOAA Satellite and Information Service released footage of filament eruptions on the surface of the sun on Wednesday, May 7.

“The sun had four dramatic filament eruptions over the last 24 hours, and the Solar Ultraviolet Imager onboard NOAA’s GOESEast satellite caught them!” NOAA said on X.

“These filaments are comprised of long strands of cooler, denser plasma that lift off the sun’s surface.”

According to NOAA, occasionally the filament blow off the surface of the sun and can cause space weather effects on Earth if their paths intersect.
However, in this case, the eruptions were pointed away from Earth.
