Canada forecasted to enter “mild” recession according to Deloitte

From Global News.

A modest recession is in the cards for Canada in the second half of this year as tariffs and trade uncertainty hit full force, according to a new Deloitte Canada report. Anne Gaviola spoke to chief economist Dawn Desjardins earlier this week about which sectors — and which jobs — are on the line.

The Canadian economy shrank modestly in April by 0.1 per cent, according to Statistics Canada.

That follows an increase of 0.2 per cent in March for real gross domestic product and comes amid fears of a potential recession later this year spurred by the U.S. trade war.

A recession is defined by two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth.
