Brazilian protesters took to the streets of Sao Paulo Thursday night to express their outrage over the 50 per cent tariff proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump in retaliation against the country’s treatment of former president Jair Bolsonaro.

The demonstration had originally been planned to show support for a proposed tax on high-income earners but quickly shifted to Trump.
Trump specifically tied his threat of a 50 per cent tariff on Brazilian imports to the trial of Bolsonaro, who is charged with trying to overturn his 2022 election loss.

Lula has pledged to retaliate against the proposed tariffs, accusing Trump of a “complete lack of respect” after his American counterpart took to social media to deliver the threat rather than communicating with him directly.
