President Donald Trump has ordered the Department of Justice to investigate former president Barack Obama, after it claimed to have “irrefutable” evidence that Obama led a campaign which manufactured intelligence "in an effort to de-legitimize [Trump’s] victory before he even took the oath of office," Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday.

"The Russia collusion hoax was a massive fraud perpetuated on the American people from the very beginning," Leavitt said. "While publicly pretending to engage in a peaceful transfer of power, in private former president Obama went to great and nefarious lengths to try to sow discord among the public and sabotage his successor," Leavitt added.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard — who, hours earlier, released a declassified House committee report that the White House claims “confirms that the Obama administration manufactured politicized intelligence” — described Obama’s alleged actions as “a years long coup and a treasonous conspiracy against the American people.”

Obama’s team refuted Trump’s claim of treason Tuesday, calling them “bizarre allegations [which] are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction.” They have not addressed Wednesday’s comments.
