U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed scepticism regarding trade negotiations with Canada, stating he is "not hopeful" about reaching an agreement before the looming Aug. 1 deadline.

This deadline marks a potential increase in tariffs on certain Canadian goods, which could rise to 35 per cent. In response, the Canadian government indicated that any potential agreement would take time to finalize.
