The Modes of the MAJOR SCALE

The modes are effectively "inversions" of the major scale. They are seven scales that use the same sequence of tones and semitones but each one treats a different note in that sequence as the tonic note, and, most usefully for us, each of these seven modes gives a different flavour or mood to the music.
