On the Greek island of Ikaria, locals and tourists celebrate "panigiri", a centuries-old summer tradition of sharing, and dancing that is an integral part of village life. Each festival marks the feast day of a local patron saint and helps fund the upkeep of villages. "Everything you see — the houses, the gates, the church — is funded by the income from these festivals", says Theodoros Georgiou.
