US announces new tariffs for dozens of countries | BBC News

From BBC News.

The White House has released new levies for dozens of countries, all of which will come into effect on Thursday.

Canada’s tariff rose from 25% to 35% – though most Canadian goods will be exempt due to an existing trade treaty.

Prime Minister Mark Carney says his government is "disappointed" by US President Donald Trump’s decision.

Higher tariffs for Mexico have been paused for another 90 days, while Brazil faces the biggest increase, with Trump raising tariffs on Latin America’s largest economy to 50%.

Donald Trump first announced his tariff plan in April, sending chaos rippling through the world economy. But he paused it so countries could negotiate new trade deals, which include the UK and EU.
