A volcano erupted for the first time in more than 600 years in Russia’s Far East after an earthquake struck the region earlier this week.

The Krasheninnikov volcano sent ash 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) into the sky, according to staff at Kronotsky Reserve, where the volcano is.
