Palestinians attended the funeral on Monday of Al Jazeera journalists Anas Al Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh, who were both killed, along with four other journalists and two other people, according to the Al Shifa hospital administration.
"What happened to these journalists is a complex Israeli crime against the journalistic family, a crime against humanity, a crime against freedom, a crime against journalism," said a Palestinian journalist, Mohammed Al-Siqli.
Israel’s military said it targeted and killed Anas Al Sharif, alleging he had headed a Hamas militant cell and was involved in rocket attacks on Israel.
Al Jazeera, which is funded by the Qatari government, rejected the assertion, and before his death, Al Sharif had also rejected such claims by Israel.
"We stand today to express our appreciation and loyalty to our martyred colleagues, and to confirm that we are steadfast in our professionalism and going forward on this road," said Al Jazeer’s news presenter, Salma Al-Jamal during the live broadcasted stand, as employees held photos of the deceased journalists.
