Explosion at Pennsylvania steel plant leaves 1 dead, multiple injured

From Global News.

Explosions at a U.S. Steel plant near Pittsburgh, Penn., on Monday left one person dead, one missing and multiple injured.

An Allegheny County spokesperson said the explosion happened at the Clairton Coke Works, a massive industrial facility along the Monongahela River south of Pittsburgh.

Emergency workers continued to search through the badly charred rubble Monday afternoon for one missing worker, officials said. Another missing worker was pulled from the wreckage hours after the explosion sent plumes of black smoke into the sky in Mon Valley, a region of the state synonymous with steel for more than a century.

U.S. Steel’s chief manufacturing officer said they were still trying to determine what led to the explosions and praised employees for rescuing workers and making sure the site was stable.
